How Can I Activate Roaming on My Phone?

Introduction

Using a single sim card across the globe can be an added benefit for some people, especially business personnel. So many of them look for the option of roaming from their telecom services.

Roaming simply means being able to use a domestic sim card in other countries also. Getting access beyond and borders. You can exchange voice calls, SMS, and use data just the way you have used it in the home country. The rates will be different but the number and service will remain the same.

Who is eligible for roaming services?

Any existing subscriber of a telecom brand can activate their particular sim card for roaming. They just need to have a subscription paper and a valid credit card. Some ask for a passport copy as well.

A person filling these requirements can simply go to customer care to open the roaming facility. Most telecom brands now even offer to fulfill this procedure online. You can simply submit all the required documents via email.

Activation process

Through performing a few easy steps you can get roaming. For this, you will need to have the following documents and attachment.

Prepaid/postpaid card

First of all, you need to have a valid prepaid or postpaid card for that particular service producer. Some telecom service providers give roaming facilities only to postpaid card users. And some offer the facility to both prepaid and postpaid users.

So you have to check whether you fit into that criteria. Does your sim card have an existing validation date? If so you can continue with the future procedures.

Form

Then you have to fill up a form as an application for the roaming service. Form structure might vary from provider to provider. But mostly the forms are intended for the query of primary information. You can find sample forms on the official websites of different telecom brands.

Passport copy

Submitting a Passport copy or NID copy is compulsory to have a roaming sim card. Mostly they require a copy of the personal information section of the passport.

International credit card

Photocopy of both sides of an international debit/credit card is required for the fulfillment of this process. And the credit card has to have 3 months validity.

The backside signature copy of such a credit card is mandatory in most cases. But some telecom companies have alternative policies also. Such as US dollar endorsement or any security deposit policy.

Deposit

Most telecom companies ask to deposit a certain amount before having such roaming facilities. In most cases, the deposit amount is  5000 BDT. Or might be a $10 recharge before activating roaming.

You can easily activate the roaming service on your Android device as well. There are mobile apps developed for this.

What happens after activation?

After activation is done you will be able to use your domestic card beyond national borders. It will make balancing your travel life and day to day essential connectivity with your home country quite easy.
